Reverse the Past Anti-Nation Activities

You have to apologize before the nation and the people. In addition, it has to be you, the parties signing 12-point agreement in Delhi, which must compensate the lost national resources, and human, physical and economic property of the nation.

By Deepak Gajurel

Deepak GajurelConstituent Assembly (CA) chairman the other day publicly said ‘if consensus is not reached soon, the coming days are dangerous.’ ‘Nepal is heading towards another conflict’, if our demands are not met, thundered the top opposition coalition boss.

Similar lines of prediction or sort are being uttered by top political brass these days. And everyone is not forgetting to add ‘if’ while threatening the other side.

Yes this is the ground reality. This once peace loving nation is inching towards further devastation, that too in the name of people’s rule ‘democracy, all caused by the present political class.

It is a complete failure! Nevertheless, it was not unexpected, at least for serious ‘analysts.’

Based on real politik theory, experts had long been predicting that the CA will not work here under the circumstances that was created, with the ‘help’ from without, and continues to be so.

Completing a circle of the power struggle in nine years, Maoists, this time, have managed to build pressure upon the governing ‘people’s representatives’ from the street, with the help of regional and ethnicity based groupings.

It’s by now clear that ‘Parliamentary’ parties have come to a position where they had been during their ‘struggle for democracy’ against the King in April 2006 regime change, albeit difference in nature this time round is that their fight is with their own partner of Loktantra, namely ‘Maoist.’

The triangular power equation was broken down by India when Delhi brought together parliamentary parties’ coalition and Maoist against the King. No Nepali should forget in this context that the Maoists have, still to this day, not given up violence as a means of political gains. And with two power blocs posturing furiously against each other, the country stands head on, absent the Monarch.

The first CA died without yielding anything to the nation. It was natural and foreseen long back. Same fate seems to wait for the second CA, for, major variables, both domestic as well as alien, remain unchanged from that of the previous one.

One party, Maoist, seems to be in comfortable position than those of the others, because of its strategies applied during all these years of ‘New Nepal’ illusions.

Others, in the current political confrontation, are at the losing end, for, they do not have any justifiable reason for what they did in the past.

In this imbalanced power alignment, parliamentary parties, especially NC and UML have little choice in the days ahead. Forget about Maoists giving way for them to further loot the nation and continue to befool the citizenry. One should take into consideration the behavioral tendencies of the rebels (not former, because they have not given up arms and violence till this day).

So, parliamentary parties, including neo-republican Panchas, have only two ways forward. The first, proceed as you have been doing, collide, and ultimately get smashed, politically and possibly, physically. And take with you the innocent people and the nation into further destruction, which no one has the authority to.

Second, and the final, alternative can be a better way for them to survive.

Accept the past blunders of indulging in anti-nation activities in collusion with foreign power/s. Obviously foreigners will not do good for Nepal, which is experienced better by the general mass of the Nepali populace.

Accepting the past deeds will not be enough. You have to apologize before the nation and the people. In addition, it has to be you, the parties signing 12-point agreement in Delhi, which must compensate the lost national resources, and human, physical and economic property of the nation.

It is now upon ‘democratic’ forces which way they choose to go. The choice is yours.

  2. The political issues concern the international actors today much more than what was perceived during the support given at the end phase of insurgency in Nepal.

The stakeholders to the power game have miscalculated the political parties’ capabilities to take the constitutional reforms to their logical end. The increase in activities of the northern and southern neighbors demonstrates clearly the emergence of non-zero sum interests that have imposing strategies to their national interests.

This is where the crux of the problem lies and this is where the leaders have been dragged into and the Nepali nation is paying the price.

Doubling our diplomatic efforts and uniting to protect our national interests can clear up our vision and dispel mistrusts national and internationally.

Who can do this? The political parties have lost their credibility.
